Chester Bennington Tribute Portrait
I grew up listening to Linkin Park among other bands and I can easily say that their music has influenced much of my tastes today. So, to learn of Chester’s death during my teens years was quite devastating as it was for many. When faced with a choice of artists to draw a tribute- style portrait of in my sophomore year of college, Chester was a no brainer. I really wanted to do right by the rock legend, even when told that my choice was “too niche” and “obscure” to be appreciated properly. If only they knew some of the bands I listen to now :)
My concept for this portrait was not only to celebrate such a renowned celebrity and performer, but to highlight the very real and human struggles he went through. I took inspiration from traditional depictions of Atlas and the old saying of “carrying the weight of the world on one’s shoulders.” Bursting forth from the globe is a microphone, representing Chester’s position in the band as well as one of Linkin Park’s logos I drew out by hand for this piece (the design of which I do not own.) Finally, around his neck are depictions of three awards the band has won over the years: a way to celebrate their many accolades.
