Godfather Death is a graphic novel I wrote and illustrated for a school project based on the Brother’s Grimm story of the same name. I modified and rewrote the story in the context of a cyberpunk future where humans have started enhancing their bodies with machinery. The protagonist, the Physician, is given up as a young child by his struggling father. His father had given him to Death who agrees to give the child a better life. However, when the Physician grows up, Death gifts him with a tool that will help him do his job of repairing his patient’s bodies as long as he follows a simple rule: if Death stands at the head of the patient, the Physician may heal them, but if he stands at their feet, they must be allowed to die. When the Physician makes a selfish decision in light of this, he quickly learns what the consequences are of disobeying Death.
